The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Julie Fillenwarth can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolence: I was deeply saddened to hear that Julie is no longer with us here on earth, but her spirit lives within us all forever! She was a dear sorority sister of mine. we had lots of great times together in college! I was so glad that I was able to be with her at our Alpha Phi sorority reunion last fall at beautiful Fillenwarth Beach. My love goes out to her entire family.

Condolence: Dear Greg,
I am the Alpha Phi Sister & Cancer Research Nurse who has been corresponding with Julie over the past few months via email between two great bodies of water-Lake Okoboji and middle of the Pacific Ocean.
Julie wrote about being a huge fan of the Hawkeye wrestling team. (Knowing nothing about this sport, “googled it”. Discovered Coach Tom Brands is a Gold Medal Olympiad!) Pondering her interest in wrestling, the special connection became apparent. She was a wrestler too. Her formidable opponent was TNBC, Triple Negative Metastatic Breast Cancer. Every time she went to the mat, there was no advance scout to suggest moves to outwit the opponent. Most matches were against heavy weights, many times the holds were impossible to outmaneuver. Despite this, Julie continued to return to the mat powered by Determination, Strength, Courage, Faith, Love and Hope. (Julie would remind me to add, and “the prayers and inspiration from my wonderful family and friends.”)
I shall fondly remember Julie for her grand Last Match in Cleveland. How many wrestlers go to the mat knowing they may not win, but go so that another may win? Your participation in Dr. Barr’s Clinical Trial will give meaningful information for future game strategies that may defeat this opponent. This is Hope.
Together, you and Julie lived your life so that someone else may win. This Legacy is more valuable than Gold.
Alpha Phi Hugs,
Marsha Petersen

Condolence: My sympathy goes to all the people in Julie's life, particularly Greg. I didn't know Julie well but she sure made a stranger, actually a group of us, feel welcome and at home. She made a lasting pleasant memory during our brief acquaintance.
