Obituary for Ella Joan Dahl (Roach)

Ella Joan Dahl (Roach)
Ella Joan (Roach) Dahl the daughter of Benny and Ruth (Rogers) Roach was born November 18th, 1935, in Estherville, Iowa and departed this life at Longhouse Care Center in Spencer, Iowa at the age of 81.

She received her education in the Estherville Schools.

On June 27, 1953, she was united in marriage to Richard Dahl in Jackson, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple made their home in Estherville. Joan worked at Berkley’s in Spirit Lake for many years and was a member of the Estherville Presbyterian Church. Richard passed away September 22, 1996. Joan then made her home in Spencer.

Throughout her life Joan enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. She spent many hours making special gifts for her children and grandchildren, including crocheted blankets for all. She had a beautiful garden and loved nurturing all of her plants. She enjoyed
spending her days with her neighbors walking, chatting and putting puzzles together. The people at Sunrise Living Apartments were her dear friends.

Joan is survived by her four daughters Tammy O’Connor of San Diego, Suzan Nelson of Spencer, Ruth Schwager and her husband John of Estherville, Penny Bryant of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Twelve grandchildren, Twenty nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great
grandchildren. Two brothers, Mervin Roach and his wife Margaret of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Roy (Mary) Roach of Joplin, Missouri, with many other friends and family.

Preceding Joan in death are her husband Richard, her son Mark, her parents and her two sisters Myrtle Grems and Ellen Moore.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to Spencer Hospital Hospice and Abben Cancer Center. There will be a private celebration of life for family scheduled at a later date. www.henryolsonfuneral.com
