Obituary for Thomas G. Mart

Thomas G.   Mart
Thomas George Mart was born on November 5, 1945 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to George and Dorothy (Weimers) Mart. He attended Superior CSD until 7th grade and then Terril School, graduating in 1964. He passed away on his farm in rural Estherville on Friday, December 15, 2017 at the age of 72 years.

Tom was united in marriage to Donna Rierson on August 27, 1966, celebrating their 50th anniversary in August 2016. They made their home in rural Estherville where they began a lifetime of farming. Tom lived on the home place for 69 of his 72 years. Farming was a passion for Tom, he enjoyed driving around the section, visiting John Deere, "managing" the farm operation, spending time with grandkids either on the farm or watching their activities. He especially loved sharing his farming knowledge with them. Tom was also known for his mischievous smile and shoulder shaking laugh.

Tom was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville. He served on the Superior Telephone Board and was a past member of the Terril School Board.

Tom is survived by his wife, Donna of rural Estherville; his children, Dan Mart of Polk City, Iowa; Todd (Cindy) Mart of rural Estherville; Dawn (Tommy) Matthews of Estherville; grandchildren, Michael (Kim) Matthews; Morgan Matthews; Brady Mart; Blake Mart; Mason Mart; Caden Mart; Trenton Mart; Addison Mart; great-grandchildren, Jake Hallett; Alexa Hallett; Linnie Rouse; Maddax Matthews. He is also survived by his siblings: Cheryl Mart of Mesa, AZ, Mike (Luann) Mart of rural Estherville; Dennis (Connie) Mart of Terril; sisters-in-law, Diana Rierson of Lake Park, Iowa; Roberta (Roger) Dotson of Tiffin, Iowa; Doris (Steve) Schornhort of Iowa City, Iowa; Ruth Muller of Milford, Iowa; brother-in-law, Rich (Diane) Rierson of Estherville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy; nephew, Nathan Mart; great-niece, Sora Yamada; two infant brothers, Daniel and Stephen and mother and father-in-law, Ervin and Verda Rierson.
