Obituary for Howard Conrad Brekke

Howard Conrad  Brekke
Howard Conrad Brekke, the son of Conrad and Agnes (Bohrer) Brekke, was born September 30, 1925, in Mankato, Minnesota. He died Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 92.

Howard was baptized in October of 1925, in Mankato. He was confirmed On December 8, 1940, at State Line Lutheran Church in Petersburg, Minnesota. He received his education and graduated from Superior High School. Following high school, Howard served in the United States Navy during World War II from December 1943 through June of 1946. After his honorable discharge Howard returned to the area.

On November 25, 1950, Howard was united in marriage to Ione Lennette Rossow at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield, Minnesota. The couple farmed for many years north of Superior. Howard took great pleasure in raising hogs and cattle. For hobbies, he enjoyed yard work, being outdoors, traveling to national parks to see the mountains and waterfalls and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville and served on the Farm Bureau Board.

Left to cherish Howard's life are his wife, Ione of Estherville; son, Thomas Mark Brekke and his wife, Deb of Spirit Lake; son, Jon Howard Brekke and his wife, Deb of Spirit Lake; grandchildren, Brent (Sarah) Brekke of Bondurant, Iowa; Amanda (Josh) Chilson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Jena Simmons of Spirit Lake and sister, Ruth Sheehan of Flippin, Arkansas.

He has been preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Floyd and Allen Brekke and sister, Doris Carlson.
