Obituary for Irene G Foster (McClelland)

Irene G. Foster, age 94, of Estherville, Iowa passed away at her home on June 14, 2018.

Irene was born February 6, 1924 at Emmetsburg, Iowa. She was the second of six children born to Lloyd Earl McClelland and Hazel Garland (Carr) McClelland. Irene grew up in Cylinder and Rodman, Iowa and graduated from Rodman High School.

In 1943, Irene married Delmer B. Foster. They farmed for several years around Estherville and Terril, and they raised three children, Charles, Dennis and Donna. After leaving the farm in 1963, the family ran Foster's Standard in Estherville. Later in life, Irene and Delmer worked together to manage a light factory in Storm Lake, Iowa. Upon retirement, Irene and Delmer returned to their home in Estherville, where Irene kept very busy with family projects and serving in her church and community.

Irene's family will always cherish her many handmade gifts and uniquely stitched cards. She enjoyed keeping busy creating and sharing with those she loved. Irene also loved serving people through her Church, the Estherville RSVP projects, spending time with her friends, but she especially treasured her three days a week at the Estherville Public Library where she continued to learn and serve with a smile until she went home to the Lord.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer, son-in-law, Steven J. Leitzke, her parents, her brother, Bob McClelland, her sister, Mona Sanders and her great grandson, Blake Foster.

She is survived by her three children: Charles (Diana) Foster of Storm Lake, IA; Dennis (Judy) Foster of Surprise, AZ; Donna (Dave) Drescher of Blue Earth, MN; eleven grandchildren: Shane (Karen) Foster, Sharon Clifford, Lisa Gainey, Kevin Foster, Scott Foster, Tony (Sim) Foster, Heidi (Jay Noble) Leitzke, Hana (Peter) Herzog, Andrew Leitzke, Jonathan (Sarah) Leitzke, Jordan Leitzke; Fifteen great grandchildren: Paige Foster, Brooke Foster, Chase Foster, Cody Prebble, Dakota Kirk, Brady Gainey, Carly Gainey, Branden Tripp, Bethany Foster, Henry Noble, Ezra Herzog, Simeon Herzog, Abraham Herzog; and two great-great grandchildren: Dominic Tripp, Caleb Tripp; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will remember Irene for her love for her family, strong faith in the Lord, many years of good health, strong work ethic, and caring heart. She will be greatly missed.
