Obituary for Mike Johnson

Mike Johnson
The birth of Michael John Johnson took place in Iowa City, Iowa on September 4, 1950, to his parents Lamont and Leta (Riddle) Johnson. He was welcomed home by his older sister Kay. Mike departed this life on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa, at the age of 68 years old.

He received his education in the Swea City School District, graduating in 1968. After graduation he joined the Marines. On February 14, 1980, he was united in marriage to Tammy Busch in Fairmont, Minnesota. At this time, she joined him in their adventure of owning the Country Inn.

He was a member of the Whittemore Legion and the Swea City Fire Department for 25 years. Mike was a member of the United Methodist Church in Swea City. Throughout his lifetime Mike enjoyed playing for the Country Inn softball team, bowling team, and pool league. He also enjoyed going to Hawkeye, Twins, and Viking games. Taking golf trips, enjoying Bud Light, cooking and bartending were some of his favorite ways to spend his time. Most important to him was his time with his family and grandchildren; they kept him going for so long.

Continuing to cherish Mike's memory are his wife of 38 years, Tammy; his three daughters: Heidi (Stacy) Jobe of Carrolton, GA, Jennifer (Tim) Zinnel of Swea City; Steffani (Brandon) Nemmers of Knoxville, IA; and his grandchildren: Kellie, Krista, & Hollie, Taevyn, Jaxlee, & Trake, and Kaylee & Kennedy. He is also survived by his sister, Kay (Bob) Simonsmeier of Spokane, WA.

He has been preceded in death by his parents and one niece.
