Obituary for Evelyn Simon (Shultz)

Evelyn Lee (Shultz) Simon, the daughter of Lee and Esther (Hyer) Shultz, was born June 14, 1932 in rural Gruver, Iowa. She died peacefully on Friday, September 21, 2018 at her home in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 86.
She received her education and graduated from Gruver High School in 1950.
On March 31, 1951, she was married to James Simon at the Presbyterian Church in Estherville. In the early years of their marriage, she was employed by Graves Grain in Gruver. The couple farmed in the Gruver area until James passed away in 1972. She remained on the farm until 1998 when she moved into her current home in Estherville.
Evelyn loved family first and foremost. She also enjoyed sports, flowers, old movies, playing cards, cooking, baking and a cup of coffee with anyone who stopped by. She was a member of Gruver Presbyterian Church and a current member of First Presbyterian Church in Estherville.
Left to cherish Evelyn's memory are her children, Joni (Tom) Lownik of Austin, Texas; Sandy (Tim) Wolf of Madison, Wisconsin; James (Beth) Simon of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Daniel Simon of Yreka, California; 10 grandchildren, Molly (Jim) Reitsma; Jimmy (Moriah) McKenna; Abby Langan; Ashley (Paul) Pridemore; Stephanie (Joey) Martin; Matthew Wolf; Megan Simon; Sarah Simon; Marrienne Simon; James Simon; three great grandchildren, Colton Reitsma; Evie Reitsma; Gnvy McKenna; and her sister, Millie Duer of Armstrong.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Simon; parents, Esther and Lee Shultz; sisters, Alice (Art) Adams, Audrey Weisel and brother-in-law, Leonard Duer.
