Robert Thomsen, age 86, of Estherville, Iowa, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Bob, son of Lars and Ellen (Kinnard) Thomsen, was born on a farm in Graettinger, Iowa on October 7, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Ruth and Dorothy; and brothers, Lawrence and Thomas.
He attended school in Graettinger, Iowa, and graduated in the class of 1950. He served in the United States Army from 1953 through 1955.
On May 11, 1957, Bob was united in marriage to Ann Guerdet at St. Patrick’s Church. The couple made their home in Estherville where they raised their three daughters and one son. He was employed at John Morrell and Motor Inn. He was an active member of St. Patrick’s Church.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed playing cards, going to auctions, and making people laugh. He was an avid baseball fan and loved studying history. Visiting with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren, brought him much happiness.
Left to cherish Bob’s memory is his wife of 61 years, Ann; his daughter Monica Kain, her husband, John, and their children Erica and Brian; his daughter Marcia Wegener, her husband, Bruce, and their children: Samantha and her husband Chase; Ellen and her husband Joe, and their children Carlin and Macy; Mary and her husband David and son Porter; his daughter Mary Crosgrove and her husband Mike and their children, Joseph and Luke; his son, John and his wife, Natsuko, and their children Sean and Mya; and his sister Nancy Stepanovich and her husband, Jim.
Bob was a kind and loving person with a great sense of humor. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
